In Parshat Vayigash, Yosef asks Yehudah to bring Binyamin, their youngest brother to him. They do as told, and then Yosef enslaves Binyamin for having his goblet in his sack of grain. When Yosef sees that his brothers have finally done Teshuvah, he allows Binyamin to go. Then he goes into another room with his brothers to reveal his identity to them. There is a question that we ask here, why did Yosef have to go to another room? Why couldn’t he just remain where he was? Two answers to this question are as follows: One, he knew that once he revealed his identity to them, they would be ashamed and embarrassed. He did not want to embarrass them in front of everyone, so he went into another room. Two, it is absurd to see such a powerful person cry like Yosef did, because of this he went into another room.
Another point I want to raise is that, before Yehudah brought Binyamin, Yosef asked them many questions. One reason that they replied was to show Yosef that they held no lies from him.
What we can learn from Yosef is that we should always try our best to not embarrass others no matter how they acted towards us.
